Pensive products and services add value and ease-of-use to powerful but complex information and knowledge management systems.
Pensive's philosophy is grounded in the belief that technology provides tools and solutions for clearly defined problems. But "if your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail": in other words, we need to take care that we do not distort our view of a problem by what tools we have on hand but instead look for a creative mix of what is technologically feasible, what is politically, economically or socially desirable and - often left out of the equation - what is publicly acceptable. This so-called "Magic Triangle" informs much of Pensive's approach to problem solving.
Pensive's solutions build on two existing and powerful technologies:
- Microsoft's Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) is a highly scalable, versatile and high-performance collaboration and content management platform - its customisability is also its weakness for those organizations looking for ready-to-run, out-of-the-box solutions;
- NetworkedPlanet's TMCore Information Server and SharePoint Module provides a powerful layer of additional functionality that breaks free of many of the structural limitations of MOSS but also requires considerable investment in customization and configuration.
Pensive leverages both products and offers an out-of-the-box solution that will allow many more organizations to benefit from these technologies as well as opportunities for collaboration and information sharing within and beyond the enterprise at a time when such functionality is increasingly in demand and even required. We will furthermore continue our work on so-called "cloud computing" solutions, looking to bring the power of these technologies to secure, hosted and scalable online environments.
