Thoughtful Goals
Pensive wants to help people find their way in our increasingly complex digital lives. We seek to transform the way people conceive of, manage and use information and we will challenge the current dominant model in which information is "passive" and ready to be exploited as a commodity by third parties, beyond the control of the information's owners.
We will promote a new paradigm - subject-centred computing - in which important ideas, concepts and information are transformed into valuable assets, managed by users and exploited by them as they see fit.
We will promote the growth of a new market for information services that leverage this paradigm, by commoditizing information navigation services, specific domain ontologies and networks of subjects and information maps for distinct market niches. Our central goal is to dominate a new market for such services , by establishing a "keystone advantage" from the concepts of "Subject-Centric computing" and "Subject Identity".
With InformationGPS:
- Users identify, manage, link together and navigate subjects through an information map not a jumble of ever expanding volumes of data;
- Their information map is hosted and - when they want - shared, without touching their own content;
- Users control their own information.
Our Values
Pensive has established a set of principles that underpin the company’s core values:- firstly, as regards people:
- to treat all users with dignity – if they don’t understand the product, the product is wrong. Not the other way round;
- to be an exemplary employer – treating all staff with due respect, offering opportunities for continued professional improvement and rewarding exceptional effort whilst maintaining a spirit of team collaboration;
- to behave in a dignified manner in public and in the market – we will not engage in negative campaigns against competitors. We respect the intelligence of and the choices made by clients and consumers, recognizing that there are a range of market offerings, including our own. We will argue on the strength of our offerings and the belief that the paradigm we are pursuing is valuable and important,
- secondly, as regards our approach to technology:
- to treat all “digital things” explicitly as information assets – putting the owner in clearer control and giving them tools to help them value and protect these assets, without compromise with, dependency on, or ceding ownership to, any specific software application, platform or third party;
- to recognise and respect “knowledge” as an essentially human activity – knowledge cannot be “managed”: it can be shared by humans through management of information. That is our humble goal. We will not patronize customers with inflated claims about the “semantic web” or “knowledge management”. We believe strongly in keeping humans “in the loop”;
- we therefore seek to develop software solutions that allow users to break free from the unhealthy burden of data and “content” overload and that make managing information assets as intuitive and productive as managing any other corporate asset, with a strong accent on usability, simplicity, accountability, governance and data protection.
